Learning at home is becoming the more viable option for most busy adults and I’ve found that with the guitar, and now the piano a piano lessons dvd does a great job of supplementing what private instruction would do for me but for a whole lot less money.

This site discusses the different types of beginner piano lessons available, and my first choice is the Learn and Master Piano program.

I’ve been a user of their guitar course and believe they’re doing the best job on the market at providing self study instruction from high quality instructors for a fraction the price of a years worth of private lessons.

There are online video lessons, how ever I personally prefer the dvds. I don’t like having to be connected to my computer to watch a lesson and the DVDs are much easier to watch via my DVD player and TV rather then on my laptop.

They’ve recently introduced a new line of products entitled their “Spotlight Series” of courses. The aim behind this series of courses is to have sub niches of a larger area of learning (I.e. Guitar or Piano) and create “mini courses” from these sub niches.

The one that prompted me to want to write this post today is their blues guitar dvd course. This was the first of three Spotlight series courses to be created and if you enjoy playing the guitar or love the blues then this course is something you’ll want to check out.

This blues guitar dvd is instructed by Steve Krenz, the same instructor of their award winning Learn and Master Guitar course. He does a great job, as he did in the original guitar course, of keeping a complex topic easy for beginners.

The video quality in mu opinion is even better than what the original guitar course was and they’ve integrated a mixture of studio lessons with live on stage lessons taking advantage of a full band.

Over all the course is probably the best set of blues guitar lessons out there. It’s well worth checking out and the price is a steal.

One of the great things about the piano is you have 2 hands to play with, unlike the guitar where you only have one hand to play your rhythms on.

This sample lesson gives you a nice primer on how to play patterns in 8 bars on the piano. This is a great lesson that first introduces some actual songs, and on the full lesson starts to teach you Let It Be by ear.

If you’re serious about teaching yourself piano and you’re tired of wasting time on free videos and worthless books check this course out, it’s well worth the money.

This sample video dips into a bit of musical theory, so if you’re a beginner you might feel a little over whelmed with everything that’s talked about, but don’t let that discourage you.

With a little practice time and consistency anyone can become a great piano player, it’s just a matter of finding a good teacher to explain the basics.

In this particular sample lessons clip the instructor from Learn and Master Piano, Will Barrow, illustrates how there is only one note difference between the C major and minor triads.

If the concept of a triad, major, or minor chord doesn’t make sense to you, don’t worry, this lesson would be something you’d watch after you’d already learned the basics.

For someone who already has a basic understanding of the Piano, then this video may help you better understand the difference between major and minor chords and triads.

Something to pay attention to in this video is the virtual keyboard above the instructor. This shows, in real time, exactly what notes are being played while he’s explaining new concepts. This is a valuable learning tool for beginners and one that most piano lessons online, or piano lesson dvds, don’t offer.
